Information for health workers
Sometimes hospital workers deal with accident victims who remain unconscious or have regained consciousness but due to serious injuries suffer from amnesia. If your hospital is treating such a patient and you suspect that the unidentified person may be a Polish citizen, please contact ITAKA immediately.
How can you check if your unidentified person has been reported missing?
If the patient’s identity cannot be confirmed by appropriate documents or their family never come to visit, you can check if such a person has been in fact reported missing by searching our Missing People Internet Database.
Please enter available search criteria - e.g. sex, height, approximate age - into the search box and look at the photographs of people who fulfill these criteria. If none of the people you find in the database looks like your unidentified person, you should narrow down your search criteria and look once more at the selected photographs. If you find the picture of your charge in our Missing People Internet Database, please be sure to notify us urgently so that we can contact this person’s family. If your unidentified person’s details could not be found in the database, it does not necessarily mean that this person is not missing – perhaps their case has just not been reported to ITAKA yet. In this case please report your unidentified person to ITAKA.

How can we help unidentified people?
- We include the person’s details in our Unidentified People Internet Database. It is the only publicly available database of this kind. Just like the Missing People Internet Database, the Unidentified People Database can be searched by entering available search criteria. The database is regularly checked by the families of missing people and other persons involved in the search. They look for similarities between unidentified people and missing people and notify us immediately in the case of a positive match. The database is also consulted by ITAKA’s Search and Identification Team each time a new missing person’s case is reported.
- We publish pictures of unidentified people in the media in order to reach those who can positively identify them.
- Unidentified people and their caretakers are offered free phone advice by lawyers and social care workers as well as professional psychological support.
